Chladni’s figures

Chladni’s figures

Cymatics can be described as the visualisation of sound frequencies by vibrating physical matter like sand, powered, Non-Newtonian fluids or water. Two of the most important references in Cymatics are Ernst Chladni (1756–1827) and Hans Jenny (1904-1972). Chladni found a technique to visualise sound waves on a plate cover with sand. By drawing a violin bow across the edge of the plate full of sand, the plate would vibrate and the sand would form patterns that changed according to the frequency, named the Chladni figures.
